The new chip performs at a 18Gbps(gigabits per second) pin speed with 72 GBps( GigaBytes per second), which is more than double the speed of the predecessor 8Gbps pin speed 8GB GDDR5.
The new Chips work on new low power circuit design, consuming 1.35V which is approximately 35% lower than 1.55V consuming GDR chips. The chips also have 30% more gain in manufacturing productivity due to the 10nm-class process.
Due to the in improvements in memory density and power efficiency. They will be playing an important role in the next generation graphics card.
This efficiency will be widely and more effectively used in the rapidly growing fields such as virtual reality (VR), Augmented reality(AR), Artificial intelligence, Machine learning and 8K Ultra HD video processing.
