Do you know about UnderScreen Fingerprint Scanner?

With the advent of a full-screen era, the proportion of mobile phones currently on the screen is also growing. This also puts new challenges on the industrial design standards of various manufacturers. For the overall effect of mobile phones, manufacturers will try their best to make every effort Increase screen share.

However, in this case, the original HOME button on the phone will be canceled, resulting in the fingerprint module originally integrated in the front to be forced to relocate the location, such as the back of the fingerprint recognition, side fingerprinting, which seriously affected the overall appearance of the phone and Integrity may even affect the operating experience.

The ensuing program to replace the fingerprint to unlock, only the facial unlock, iris unlock several ways, but the problem is still a lot, such as Apple Face ID is facing too difficult to identify and inaccurate and other issues.

So, under the screen fingerprinting technology will be followed.

In June 2017, Vivo technology released a fingerprint recognition technology under the screen, developed by Vivo and Qualcomm technology. It is the ability to use ultrasound to penetrate the material, can penetrate the material of different materials and identify fingerprints, and fingers do not need a Fingerprint module. It can greatly reduce finger dirt, sweat, grease, and other fingerprint recognition failure. But the technology can only be used in cell phones with OLED display.

However, most mobile phones currently use LCD screens. OLEDs are not popularized because OLEDs are more expensive and easy to burn. Therefore, only the flagship models currently use OLED screens.

From a technical point of view, the fingerprint can be unlocked by using ultrasonic, capacitive, optical, thermal and other means for fingerprinting. In the small and portable device such as a mobile phone, the small and inexpensive capacitive fingerprint module becomes a manufacturer first choice.

But it can not be used in the next screen fingerprinting technology. Because it is too thick. The sensor simply can not penetrate the screen to collect fingerprints, and the most important point of fingerprinting under the screen is penetrating. So, it can only choose the ultrasound or Optical fingerprint identification two programs. But at present there are many shortcomings, mainly the following points:

(1) Power consumption is too high. To achieve efficient penetration, then it also requires high power consumption, whether it is ultrasonic fingerprinting penetration or optical fingerprint penetration, the power consumption is still great. Since the mobile phone is so important today, this point can not solve this technology will never be achieved.

(2) The volume is too large. As the power requirements are too high, then the corresponding will also affect the size of the fingerprint module, which brings great test for its integration with the OLED screen.

(3) Low recognition rate. Because it is under the screen fingerprinting, that is, through the glass imaging, it will also affect the imaging results, but also affect the accuracy of fingerprint recognition and recognition speed, simply can not and traditional fingerprint recognition technology than.

(4) The cost is too high. We all know. Samsung is the main producer OLED screen, because of its monopoly position, resulting in the cost of the OLED screen is too high, it can not be the large-scale promotion.

  1. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is great blog. An excellent read. I’ll certainly be back.
